I work for an anonymous company that takes calls for informercials of all sorts. The majority of the calls I've received are wrong numbers or people wanting basic information about the product, such as the price of the item and shipping charges.
Let me just say 99.9% of all infomercials are shady. Yes, you do receive a product, but at what cost? There are so many extra we try to sell.
Shipping and Handling Charges: The shipping is generally way too much money. I've literally seen shipping as much as $40 on some products. Then there is always the "express shipping" which is code for getting your item 1-2 weeks earlier. The shipping time frame is usually 4-6 weeks for most items. The shipping charges aren't quite upfront and never really disclosed except for on the commercial itself, and if you've ever seen an infomercial it's usually hidden in small print.
Extras: The extras would be "for today only if you buy x y and z you get this item for free... you just pay an extra $15 in shipping and handling." Plus there are so many items they want to sell. Then there is the dreaded gift card program and and the "free" magazines. There are also products that they suggest you need to go along with the original product you are purchasing.
I've definitely learned that I will never call an infomercial. So please people, be careful what you buy! Make sure you get the entire cost of the product and the entire cost of shipping and handling. And be sure to tell your elderly relatives to not call infomercials. The way things are worded the elderly seem to get confused and say yes to everything they are offered. I've had quite a few elderly people call and say yes to everything. They have ended up spending $500 when they called in to spend $25. It's terrible. I try so hard to make sure the elderly understand what they are ordering.
But the best part of the job is getting the bottom barrel of stupidity. These calls make my day. I love the stupid people! Just makes me laugh! So I've decided to blog about my callers. I hope you enjoy!
